Enlarge Pores & Blackheads

Pore's are are tiny openings in the skin and their size is related to the size of the oil glands located underneath the skin. Unfortunately, there is no real way to shrink pores. The size or your pores is determined by heredity and a few outside factors. You can't change heredity, but you can protect yourself from the outside factors.

To prevent pores from enlarging in the first place, don't sqeeze blackheads. Squeezing can rupture the hair follicle, causing scarring that permently enlarges the pore. Also, unprotected sun exposure will enlarge pores, so wear sunscreen and protective clothing.

 

The solution to make pores less noticable is:

• Keep your skin clean - blemishes will make your pores look bigger.
• Use astringent sparingly - Alcohol based toner products temporarily close pores by causing irritation and a swelling effect that lasts for maybe an hour. Over use of astringents can leave your skin dry and flaky so save it for a special occasion.
• Try a clay facial mask to draw our excess oil and temporarily close the pores.
• A light alpha hydroxy acid peel can unplugged pores to make them look smaller.
• Try Retin-A. It will remove blackheads and unclog pores to help minimize their appearance.
• Use an oil-free water based moisturizer.
• Try a mattifying toner.

For woman who wear makeup - the following tips can also help to minimize the look of large pores:

• Use dewy or semi-dewy makeup that reflects light. This will hide shadows that make pores appear larger.
• Choose a loose, talc-based flat powder and apply by rolling on the powder with a puff to really set it into the foundation for longer lasting results.
• Use a powder blusher to further cut the shine.
