Tips & Cautions about Facial Masks:

  • If you have sensitive skin, test the mask on another skin area, such as the inside of the forearm. Wait 24 hours. If you see any redness or have irritation, look for another product.
  • Avoid contact with eyes. Facial masks may contain acne medication or other irritation ingredients.
  • Rinse mask with warm water, then splash with cool water to finish up.
  • Apply your skin care products right after your facial. Your skin is ready to absorb in all those anti-aging ingredients.

Home Spa Facial Peels

Special Note:  The term home facial peel can refer to chemical acid peels and fruit peels. This is what we are referring to here. The term facial peel can also refer to all the methods of exfoliating your skin. We are going to focus on home facial peels using chemical acids and fruit enzymes.

Home facial peels using acids like glycolic or salicylic are becoming more common. A word of caution though, using stronger acid concentrations available in some peel products may be very irritating if not used properly. Always follow the directions.

Sensitive skin should probably stay away from these stronger acid peels unless you consult with a dermatologist first. Fruit ingredient peels and are much milder and can work well for most all skin types.

The main purpose of a home facial peel is exfoliation. Home peels can also deep clean and some contain other active anti-aging skin care ingredients that give that extra boost to your skin care system.

The different types of home facial peels include:

  • entire systems of products (cleansers, toners, peels, moisturizers) that you use daily
  • glycolic acid pads that you use daily
  • a once or twice a week acid peel with a single product
  • a once or twice a week acid peel with a 2 product kit

Depending on the rest of your anti-aging skin care system, each of these has its merits.

Home facial peels can be incorporated into your total system with daily use products or added as that once a week special treatment. It is up to you.

Home Facial Steaming

Open, flush and refine your pores.

A facial steam helps to:

  • re-hydrate skin
  • improve circulation
  • renew skin by removing toxins
  • prevent pimples and blackheads
  • soften skin
  • open pores
  • improve the benefits of masks, anti-aging ingredients and moisturizers
  • release muscle tension in your face

You should feel refreshed and less stressed after a relaxing steam.

A facial steam is good for normal and oily skin qualities and can help a dry complexion improve moisture. However, dry skin should only be steamed for 4 to 5 minutes and no more than once a week or try a cool steam.

Facial steams are also a great way to soak up the pure essence of beneficial herbs and essential oils. You can add herb leaves or essential oils to your steam water for a truly pampering experience.

During the process the dead skin is exfoliated to uncover a younger skin, which is radiant and renewed. Once a week is usually enough for these kits as they can be fairly intense on your skin.

Remember to look for kits that utilize smooth or bead like scrubbing particles. They will do the job without damaging you skin like jagged scrubbing particles.

Also, it's best to avoid microdermabrasion home kits if you have any skin conditions such as acne, eczema, keratosis, psoriasis or rosacea. Strong exfoliation may trigger irritation or breakouts.

Consult your dermatologist if you have any questions.
