How to incorporate exfoliation into your
anti-aging skin care & renewal system

Exfoliation can give you visible results quickly.  If you stop exfoliating though, the dead skin cells will build up again and you will lose your fresh skin look.

If you have never exfoliated before or it has been a long time since you have, you are starting at ground zero. So it’s time to get rid of that dead cell layer and expose some brand new skin.

AHA or BHA lotions -

AHA lotion for body exfoliation.

If using an alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid - try following the instructions with the product first. Most advise to use once or twice daily.

If your AHA or BHA is a separate product – incorporate into your daily system by applying just before the moisturizer step.

Remember –

  • There may be a little stinging especially at first, so try to stick with it a few days.
  • It can take 2 or 3 days for your skin to adjust.
  • Don’t use for more than 3 days if the stinging is too much.
  • If the irritation remains too much, cut back on how many times you are applying and even cut back on how much you apply.
  • If the product is still too irritating, then try another product with lower concentration.

TIP: There are many moisturizing products that include acids for daily exfoliation. This saves time and money.

Plant Enzyme Products – Most likely you will have no problems with these types of products as long as you do not have allergies to the fruit ingredients.

Use as directed for best results.

Apply before your moisturizer step.

microdermabrasion kits

Home Microdermabrasion Kits -

The instructions for these products vary greatly, so basically start by following the directions that come with the product. You will be told to exfoliate anywhere from 2 to 3 times a week. Some even start out with 5 times a week then stopping for a week and getting into a regular system of 3 times a week. If the instructions are having you do too much exfoliating too fast, don’t worry about it.

Just slow down. If you exfoliate 3 nights in a row and your face is irritated. Just skip a couple nights until your skin has calmed down and start up again. It won’t hurt results. Just keep going with the rest of your skin care system.

  • Usually you will see some results even after one use.
  • After the initial exfoliation process -
    • Normal to dry skin can use microdermabrasion scrubs 1 or 2 times a week for maintenance.
    • Oily skin may need 3 times a week to keep the pores unclogged.
    • Sensitive skin may only need 1 time a week for maintenance.
  • Many microdermabrasion products recommend other products that work with their kit. This can make it easy to choose other products, but remember to check ingredients for potency.

You can add microdermabrasion scrubs to your morning or bedtime system, just cleanse, dry and get scrubbing. Then apply the rest of your products.

Special Note: Always use sunscreen when exfoliating. You skin will be extra sensitive to the sun and burn quicker.
